Join Our Team as a Registered Nurse – NICU Specialist

We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Registered Nurse to join our NICU team in Spokane, WA. Shift & Schedule

  • Night Shift
  • 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)

Requirements & Skills

  • Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience
  • Patient ratio experience of 1:3 in NICU settings
  • Proficiency with Epic charting system is required
  • Current BLS and NRP certifications
  • IV Therapy skills including:
    • Administration of blood and blood products
    • Arterial line management
    • Central line blood draws and care
    • Starting and maintaining IVs
    • Umbilical artery (UAC) and vein catheter (UVC) management
  • Medications and emergency medication administration including:
    • Anti-seizure medications
    • Antibiotics and antivirals
    • IV vasopressors
    • Neonatal dosage calculations
    • Steroids and surfactants
  • Neurologic care including:
    • Assistance with lumbar puncture
    • Management of neonatal abstinence syndrome and seizure disorders
    • Therapeutic hypothermia (cooling blankets)
  • Endocrine and metabolic management such as:
    • Blood glucose monitoring
    • Hyperbilirubinemia and phototherapy
  • Gastrointestinal expertise including:
    • Breastfeeding support and breast milk handling
    • Colostomy and ileostomy care
    • Feeding modalities (bottle, breast, gavage)
    • Necrotizing enterocolitis care and tube management
    • Post-abdominal surgery care
  • Respiratory care skills including:
    • Management of Bubble CPAP, High Flow Nasal Cannula, and high-frequency ventilation
    • Chest tube management and suctioning (ETT, NT)
    • Tracheostomy care and ventilator management (AC, PC, SIMV, CPAP, BiPAP, PEEP)
    • Care for meconium aspiration, respiratory distress syndrome, nitric oxide therapy, and oscillators
  • Professional skills including:
    • Developmental care techniques
    • Patient and family education
    • Phlebotomy
    • Thermoregulation management
  • Cardiovascular knowledge including:
    • Dysrhythmia interpretation and management
    • Invasive hemodynamic monitoring
    • Telemetry monitoring on unit
    • Pre-cardiac surgery care
  • Infectious disease management including:
    • Isolation precautions and PPE usage
    • Neonatal sepsis recognition and sepsis work-up
  • Expertise in caring for neonates of various gestational ages:
    • Neonates < 24-28 weeks
    • Neonates 29-34 weeks
    • Neonates > 34 weeks
  • Experience working in NICU III and NICU IV settings
  • Travel experience is not required

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care for critically ill neonates in the NICU setting
  • Maintain meticulous documentation within the Epic system
  • Administer medications and intravenous therapies, ensuring proper dosing and safety protocols
  • Monitor and manage respiratory support equipment and ventilators, ensuring continuous patient stability
  • Perform invasive procedures such as lumbar punctures and central line management in collaboration with the care team
  • Provide education and emotional support to families, fostering understanding and confidence in care plans
  • Deliver developmental and specialized nursing care tailored to the needs of premature and critically ill neonates
  • Implement infection control measures consistent with neonatal isolation precautions and PPE standards
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to coordinate patient care and discharge planning
  • Maintain professional certifications and participate in continuing education to stay current with neonatal nursing best practices

Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Washington
  • At least 2 years of experience in NICU nursing, preferably with a 1:3 patient ratio
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certifications
  • Demonstrated proficiency with the Epic electronic health record system
  • Strong clinical judgement and ability to work independently in a fast-paced critical care environment
  • Excellent communication skills, with a commitment to compassionate, family-centered care
  • Ability to work night shifts consistently with reliability and professionalism

Compensation

Hourly rate ranging from $59.00 to $70.00, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
